B.S.M.S

Siddhars, primarily from Southern India, in the state of Tamilnadu laid the grounds for Siddha system of medicine. Siddars were spiritual adepts who possessed the Ashtasiddhis. Agastyar is believed to be the founding father of Siddha Medicine. Eighteen Siddhars are considered to be vital in the Siddha Medicine. Siddha medicine is claimed to revitalized and rejuvenate dysfunctional organs that cause the disease and to maintain the ratio of Dosha. Kayakarpan and Muppu are specialty of Siddha system of medicine. B.S.M.S. (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery) is an undergraduate program in Siddha System of Medicine, which is the most ancient among the AYUSH systems. The duration of the course in 5 1/2 years with 4 1/2 years of classroom study and one 1 year compulsory internship. B.S.M.S. course is governed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), which is the statutory apex body working under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of AYUSH.

The examinations conducted by The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University for award of degree.

The Siddha System of Medicine is under the control of Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy (DIM & H), Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai.
